If I were a fish in an Aquarium I’d like to be seen and related to, as me. I don’t want to be photographed because this is not the same as seeing me and relating to me. Photographing me with no connection makes me into an ‘it’. As Martin Buber said ‘All true living is meeting’. I agree with him. Children should be taught how to meet. In an impoverished world people talk about intimacy as if the only place any one can experience this is within a sexual relationship. How desperately sad! Intimacy can be totally independent of sexuality.
The mobile has replaced meeting and being in the moment. I’m so pleased the pop singer, Madonna, has banned phones from her concerts.
I love photography which sees and relates to what is seen.
There are so many people having beautiful intimate moments with animals and other beings, trees, plants…….… I was saying to my cat the other day, ‘this is one of my favourite things…’. We gaze into each other’s eyes and meet. I do it with plants and trees and people too sometimes. It’s a place which gives the souls of both beings a time to see and be in peace and love.
